Faculty Groups

The Faculty's Natural Resources, Energy & Environmental Law Research group aims to promote education, research and publication in the area of natural resources, energy and environmental law, and facilitate collaboration and interaction with related disciplines and institutions, the legal profession and the community. The members of this research group will be an important element of the Centre for Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law (CREEL), currently under development in the Faculty of Law.

Institutes, Schools, and Centres Associated with the Faculty

The Alberta Law Reform Institute, formed in 1967, is the primary law reform agency for the Province. The Institute was founded by the Law Society of Alberta, the Province of Alberta and the University of Alberta. It is funded by the Alberta Law Foundation and Alberta Justice. It is housed at the University of Alberta, with a satellite office at the University of Calgary law school.

The Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre (ACLRC), founded by Sheldon Chumir, was incorporated in 1982 and is affiliated with the University of Calgary. The Research Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness among Albertans about civil liberties and human rights through research, publication and education. It is housed on the second floor of Murray Fraser Hal. 

The Canadian Institute of Resources Law is a leading national centre of expertise on legal and policy issues relating to Canada's natural resources. Since its establishment in 1979, the Institute has pursued a three-fold mandate of research, education and publication. The Institute initiates projects and responds to requests from the public and private sectors and from non-governmental organizations. CIRL's offices are on the third floor of Murray Fraser Hall. 

 

 

The Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy provides leadership and coordination for developing and implementing energy- and environment-related initiatices at the UofC; the law school is a partner Faculty of ISEEE.

The Legal Centre for Business & Technology is a not for profit, charitable society devoted to issues in business and technology law. It holds workshops and hosts guest speakers.

The School of Policy Studies, located at the UofC, is a hub of ideas, innovations and advice for leaders and policy makers around the world. The School was founded by renowned economist Jack Mintz, former president and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute. The law school is a partner faculty of the School of Policy Studies, which will commence their first degree programs in 2009.
