On February 2, 2012, Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes) welcomed as a new partner U of C alumna, Melanie Gaston (LLB 2001). Melanie practises in litigation and dispute resolution. She has broad experience in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on securities, energy matters, contractual disputes, insurance law, class actions, product liability and commercial landlord disputes.

Julie Johal (LLB 2006) is one of three new associates to join McQuarrie Hunter LLP in Surrey, BC. McQuarrie Hunter LLP is one of the largest law firms in Surrey. The announcement appeared in the Vancouver Sun.
Khatera Haidery (LLB 2009) was the subject of a Calgary Herald story on July 11, 2010 on the occasion of her admission to the bar by former Dean and now Madam Justice Sheilah Martin. Among other things, the story illustrates the value of the Faculty of Law's admission process which considers each applicant individually, looking for those who have more than outstanding grades to offer the community and profession.
The Honorable Judge Monica Bast, LLB '86, Assistant Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta, was appointed to the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta, effective September 8, 2009. Justice Bast has sat on the provincial bench since May 2006. She was the first woman appointed to the bench in Central Alberta. >> more

The Honourable Paul R. Jeffrey, LLB'87, has been appointed a Judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Alberta. Justice Jeffrey replaces Mr. Justice D. G. Hart who resigned effective April 2, 2009.
