"Sacrificing Fish for Power: A Legal History of the Spray Lakes Development and its Effects on the Spray River”, an article co-authored by Professor Nigel Bankes and recent graduate, Sarah Nykolaishen (JD 2012), has been accepted for publication in Volume 50, Issue 1, of the Alberta Law Review, to be published later this summer. The untold legal history of the Spray River Development is the centerpiece of the article, which also highlights its contemporary relevance for the growing significance of instream flow needs and the ‘managed’ nature of the Bow River system in Alberta’s water law. See also Nigel’s ABlawg post, “Using water reservations to protect the aesthetic values associated with water courses: a note on the Spray River (Banff)”, for a comment on one aspect of the Spray River Development.
