Professor Maureen Duffy was elected as a member of the National Council of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) Canada Section at the Council’s Annual Meeting in Vancouver on August 12. The ICJ was founded in 1952 in Berlin in the wake of the Nuremberg Trials and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is dedicated to the to the protection and promotion of human rights through the rule of law. The Canadian Section, established in 1958, supports the activities of the ICJ, participates in ICJ missions, and organizes lectures and panel discussions, including a major program at the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Bar Association.
