Biography: 

Allan joined the Faculty of Law on July 1, 2008. His graduate work was in international natural resources and environmental law and policy. In 1991 he was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta as a Barrister & Solicitor in Alberta and holds memberships in the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta and Beta Gamma Sigma.

Teaching: 

Allan teaches Law 571: Oil and Gas Law and Law 623: Environmental Impact Assessment Law.

Research / Scholarly Activities: 

Journals in which Allan has published scholarly papers include the Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law, the Journal of Natural Resources and Environmental Law, the Natural Resources Journal and the Water Law Review. His research focuses on regulation of the Canadian and international energy and mining sectors.

Committee Service: 

Allan was awarded the 2006-2007 Faculty Member Superior Service Award, and was elected to the Board of Directors of the University of Calgary Faculty Association. He is the Academic Director of the Haskayne Energy Management Program. In the Faculty of Law, he is a member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee, the Faculty Promotions Committee and the Sustainable Energy Development Program.

Within the Faculty of Law, Allan is a member of the Continuing L:egal Education Committee, the Mooting and Debating Committee, and the Faculty Promotions Committee. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Institute of Resources Law.
