The University of Calgary Faculty of Law graduates are heavily represented in various fields of law. Shannon H. Smallwood, LLB '99 has become the first Dene Supreme Court Judge in the Northwest Territorities, but she doesn't consider herself a role model. >> more
Mandi Sutherland Olivier, BA'00, LLB'04, works in the same building as a law firm, but that's because she's negotiated a lease to secure a space for her dance studio, Dance Divas Inc. She opened the studio in southeast Calgary last year. >> more
Susan Billington, Q.C., BA’82, LLB’85, is no stranger to the University of Calgary. She knows this campus like the back of her hand, after having completed two degrees here and lifeguarding for many years at the university aquatic centre to put herself through school, and in the time she has spent volunteering and serving as president of the U of C's Alumni Association. >> more
Christine Silverberg, LLB04, was the first woman to head up a major city police force in Canada, then at age 51, she was determined to launch a whole new career by heading back to university full time to do a law degree. Today, she is partner at Wolch, Hursh, deWit, Silverberg & Watts. >> more
Michael Culhane, LLB'87, began flying at the age of 17 and completed his Private Pilot License and Commercial Pilot License part time while attending university. In late 1980's and 1990's, while continuing to fly part time professionally, Michael Culhane provided legal services as a practicing lawyer in criminal law, construction law, labor law, aviation law and civil litigation. >> more
Kent Hehr, LLB'01, is a shining example of turning tragedy into success. The victim of a random act of violence, Hehr became a quadriplegic in his early 20's. It's an incident that turned the young hockey player's attention toward education and a commitment to his community. >> more
Brian Milne, LLB'08, was recently among the five students chosen for the presigious President's Award for Excellence in Student Leadership. While in the Faculty of Law, Milne was the president of the Calgary branch of Pro Bono Students Canada, vice-president of the Society of Law Students, volunteer with the legal assistant clinic, chair of the campus radio station board of directors, and president of a community artist-run gallery. >> more
David Elhart, LLB'08, is fresh out of law school, yet has a broad range of experience under his belt already. While in the Faculty of Law, Elhart volunteered with Student Legal Assistance, and served as a student editor on the Alberta Law Review. He also competed in the Canadian Labour Arbitration Competition and the Fraser Milner Casgrain Negotiation Competition. Currently, Elhart is articling with the Court of Appeal of Alberta, and he will be completing his articles with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. >> more
